A recent poll conducted by RMG Research indicates that 52% of registered voters endorse former President Donald Trump’s choice to deploy the National Guard to Los Angeles in reaction to the recent violent protests. The survey, carried out on Monday with a sample of 1,000 voters, reveals that 42% disapprove of this action, while 7% remain undecided. The findings of the survey were initially reported by the Daily Signal.
The unrest commenced following ICE operations in Los Angeles, leading to protests that escalated into riots. In response, Trump dispatched an initial contingent of 2,000 National Guard troops, with an additional 2,000 later sent to assist in protecting federal property and personnel. By Monday night, over 100 arrests had been made.
Support for immigration enforcement initiatives continues to be robust among voters as well. The same poll indicates that 57% of respondents approve of ICE’s efforts in locating and apprehending undocumented immigrants in the city, while 35% disapprove, and 9% are uncertain.
Trump commented on the situation, asserting that Los Angeles would be “burning to the ground” without the intervention of the National Guard. He also criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass for their handling of both the riots and the recent wildfires, accusing them of incompetence in managing the rebuilding efforts.
Significantly, Democratic Senator John Fetterman diverged from his party’s stance by denouncing the violent protests. He expressed on social media, “This is anarchy and true chaos,” criticizing fellow Democrats for their failure to condemn the assaults on law enforcement and the destruction of property.
Attorney General Pam Bondi shared comparable views in a Fox News interview, cautioning that individuals who assault law enforcement will be subject to federal prosecution.
